Italy’s Elsa Fornero, the country’s welfare minister, was so upset by the upcoming austerity package unveiled by the government that she started crying as she spoke about the changes during a news conference.
Under the new plan to curb spending and regain control of the country’s growing debt, Italy decided to raise the minimum pension age for women and men to 66 by 2018, and decided to abandon any annual inflation adjustments for many pensions, according to Reuters.
“We had to… and it cost us a lot psychologically… ask for a…” Fornero said while describing the austerity measures Sunday.

Fornero couldn’t finish describing the changes . Prime Minister Mario Monti had to pick up where she left off, telling the press that “sacrifice” was the word she was unable to say.
